Now you too can experience one of the best kept secrets in the world. Flights to Dominica - There are presently no direct international flights to Dominica but there are several international gateways nearby: Antigua, Barbados, Guadeloupe, Martinique, Puerto Rico, St. Lucia and St. Maarten connecting you from destinations in North America, Europe and the Caribbean. The following carriers provide regular flights to Dominica . . .
. . . from the international gateways above. If you are staying in Guadeloupe, Martinique or St.Lucia you can also catch the L'Express ferry to Dominica. Entry Requirements:
Ports: When arriving by boat there are three designated ports where vessels are entered and cleared:
Be aware that there are protected bays and marine wildlife reserves; no craft may be moored in such areas. In particular, the Scotts Head and Soufiere Bay areas are protected areas and you may not moor in them. The authorities at the designated ports will be able to provide you with specific information on the designated mooring areas.
Getting here from the USA - the most frequent route used by adventure travel visitors from USA is on American Airlines via San Juan Puerto Rico (their 'HUB' for the Caribbean) and their subsidiary, American Eagle. The cost of flights to Dominica can vary, depending the time of year, and how far ahead you book. The best policy is to book as early as possible, since fares tend to rise as the number of seats on a particular flight diminishes.
Getting here from Canada - Air Canada has regular direct flights from Montreal to our nearest neighbours, Guadeloupe or Martinique. (You can connect from Toronto's Pearson Airport at no extra cost). There are also direct flights from Toronto to Antigua, from where your connecting flight is usually arranged on Liat or Caribbean Star and takes only 35 minutes.
Getting here from the United Kingdom - there are regular fights from Gatwick to our neighbours, Antigua and St. Lucia, via British Airways, Britannia, Caledonia and Virgin. Dominica is 4 hours behind GMT (5 hours behind BST). Flights generally leave London's Gatwick Airport mid morning, arriving Antigua mid afternoon, (some continue to St Lucia) before returning overnight to Gatwick. Visitors from elsewhere in Europe have the option of flying from either Orly or Charles De Gaul Airports in Paris to our nearest neighbouring islands, Guadeloupe or Martinique, which remain divisions of France. As a result these are regarded as domestic flights and are often cheaper than those from London. Depending on your arrival/departure times from either Guadeloupe or Martinique you may prefer, instead of flying, to take the rapid catamaran ferry to Dominica (max. sailing time 1hr. 45min). Dominica is also a port-of-call on Carnival Cruise Lines. You can also find discount airfares, as well as last minute airfares to Dominica. I can guarantee this is one trip you will not regret, so go ahead |
